Pacman Dig

Pacman Dig

Web Business, Convenience and Promise   by Gary Davies

The world of the WorldWideWeb (www) is the modern citizen’s “home” and workplace. He consults the internet with everything he wants to know. School assignments, projects, hobbies, job-related research, banking, buying, selling, money transfer, complaints and even just “thinking aloud” is done through blogs over the web. The internet has also become a venue for arts, business, networking, organising, etc.

Before the advent of the internet, many people did not want to have anything to do with computers. Computers then were hard-core computing machines. Just text and numbers, no pictures, no drawings, not even diagrams and graphs. For years, graphics artists and developers laboured on pixel by pixel graphical representation development. Soon, “pixelated” drawings appeared in Games that became a craze such as Pacman. Many more similar games followed that made the computer friendlier to the average citizen. People who would never leave the “user-friendliness” of their typewriters started pressing keys on the personal computer.

Not long after that, the wonder of sending emails in a blitz became a new practical craze. The relatively fast postal delivery services in the more advanced countries were nicknamed “snail mail”. Most everybody was already comfortable with the computer and it easily became an indispensable appliance. Computers became as commonplace as TV and the typewriter suddenly became obsolete. Computer literacy programs were a new curricular inclusion in mainstream schools and colleges. Independent computer schools popped up everywhere offering courses that started with disk operating system (DOS) which was actually unusable in the workplace except if you were into programming.

The computer and the internet were both a convenience and a business. And that trend did not leave the industry even until today. The innovations that followed led to new business concepts and ideas that promised fast and easy money from the internet. There was an abundance of websites that promised this and that. People wanted to be a part of it all and many got scammed.

Slowly, people became adjusted to the internet craze and started to be sensible again. They became more discriminating and learned how to control themselves. Businesspersons became businesspersons again, digging deep into the finest detail of a proposed deal before going ahead if it was a “go” and firmly shaking his head if he thought the project was a “no-no”.

Websites slowly became as they should be. Otherwise, nobody cared about visiting them. But thanks to website design and web development companies good websites now occupy the internet. The only element missing is marketing for the website to become an earning business.
